Why do people care about the NFL Power Rankings?

It's funny hearing that their team should be ranked higher or why one team is higher than it should be. This isn't the BCS. As far as I'm concerned, they could put my Pack at 32. What does that prove? Nothing. People make a big deal when the rankings don't mean anything.
Why is Rankings such a big deal?

I agree. I guess it's just for pride and for something to talk about.

I agree, they should put the pats at No.32. I don't think I will be complaining. In fact, I will be glad. They play better when everybody else hate on them.

You should never take the "Power" rankings seriously before the season starts, mainly because you never know how injuries will effect players during the off-season, pre-season, or even during the season. They have a tendency to start falling together mid-season. If a team is working hard without injuries, they will move up in the rankings no matter what.

Im glad my Patriots are finnally getting recognition. I don't know why the Steelers are that much better than them. Steelers lost in crunch time to the Ravens, Pats won in crunch time to them. Do the Math. I hate the Jets but I do think they deserve that one spot so a better list is

How are the Patriots 9-0 and falling in the power rankings?

Merril Hodge put the steelers as his number one team in NFL even though there 7-2 and the Pats are 9-0. Dont get me wrong maybe the Steelers beat the Pats in a few weeks, but I dont understand how the Pats continue to win and yet drop in the power rankings. He also said that the steelers are better then the Pats because of a guy named Ben Roethlisberger, did he forget that Brady exists. It just didnt make much sense to me.
