Questions About Nfl Lines

James asks…

Anyone know where I can get the NFL opening lines each week and how they have shifted over the week?

I'm looking for the opening lines from Vegas which are usually considered the official lines for the week. I'm trying to track the progress of the NFL lines and how they have shifted over the course of the week and if there is a website or other free resource that will show me the moves the lines have made over the course of the week.

admin answers:

My Yahoo! Pick'Em League tracks the lines as they change throughout the week. Go to this link. It is easy to set up a team with your Yahoo! Account. You can track all future lines and look at past ones as well.

Ken asks…

when is the best time to wager on sportsbook nfl lines? on monday when the lines are first up, or before games?

or before the game actually starts on saturday?

admin answers:

Always on the last day, because of the injury report and weather

Chris asks…

Does it surprise you that the two best rushing attacks in the NFL have the two worst offensive lines?

The Chiefs and the Raiders have the 1st nd 2nd best rushing attacks according to NFL.com, but the 31st and 32nd best offensive lines according to NFL.com.

admin answers:

I find it more contradictory than surprising. As good as the defenses are in the NFL, you are NOT going to have the best rushing attacks in the league without good blocking in front of you. Since the teams have the best rushing attacks by statistics, that means that whatever you read on NFL.com is bull. This is not the first example of that.

Carol asks…

Can anyone post the NFL betting lines for this weekend?

Will give best answer!
I cant go to any of those sites while I'm at work. Thats why I came here, hoping someone can post them for me.

admin answers:

Sure...

Doing predictions before free agency, the draft, and coaches are hired is practically worthless. There's no telling what some teams will look like next year.

Mary asks…

2010-2011 NFL Reg.Season Standings?

Here's Mine

AFC North-*Bengals(11-5) (Offense is back)
Ravens(9-7) (Missing Ed Reed hurts, come up short of playoffs)
Steelers(7-9) (Big Jen out 4-6 weeks, too much distractions)
Browns(5-11) (It's the Cleveland Browns...)

AFC South-*Colts(13-3) (Colts too strong)
*Titans(10-6) (Avoid starting 0-6, and they are good)
Texans(8-8) (Not quite there yet)
Jaguars(6-10) (Another long season)

AFC East-*Patriots(10-6) (Not their strongest season, very close with the Jets)
*Jets(10-6) (Lose tie breaker to Patriots)
Dolphins(8-8) (Not this year)
Bills(3-13) (No hope what so ever)

AFC West-*Chargers(10-6) (Tough season, Jackson is a FA)
Broncos(8-8) (Lost Marshall, fell apart last year)
Chiefs(7-9) (See improvment in this team)
Raiders(4-12) (Bad team)

NFC North-*Vikings(12-4) (Barely beat out the Pack,I hate Bret Favre)
*Packers(11-5) (Hang with Vikings, come up shortof division)
Bears(9-7) (This team scares me)
Lions(2-14) (Nowhere close)

NFC South-*Saints(13-3) (Very strong team)
*Panthers(9-7) (Running game gets Clausen & Panthers winning season)
Falcons(8-8) (Come up short in long run)
Buccaneers(6-10) (Little improvement)

NFC East-*Cowboys(10-6) (Edge out G men)
Giants(8-8) (Just miss playoffs)
Eagles (7-9) (Don't trust in Kolb)
Redskins(7-9) (Not enough to make it in)

NFC West-*49ers(9-7) (Strong D, win a weak division)
Cardinals(8-8) (Matt Leinart won't get it done)
Seahawks(7-9) (Some improvement)
Rams(4-12) (Few more seasons until Bradford leads to playoffs)

Just want to see anyone's agreements/disagreements (probably lots of disagreements and hate) but whatever

admin answers:

AFC North-*Bengals(11-5) (I agree with this one, and this record too. They might lose the first game but their schedule looks pretty easy until November.)
Ravens(9-7) (I also agree with this record too. They've got some tough games.)
Steelers(7-9) (Big Jen, lol. 8-9 losses seems about right. This is getting weird. We need to disagree on something.)
Browns(1-15) (About time we disagree. I don't think they've made all that much progress at all. Some times sports just doesn't seem fair. This town is trying to get over LeBron and now they have a pretty tough schedule along with their lack of talent.)

AFC South-*Colts(13-3) (Regular season champs. Like always. Can't carry it into the postseason.)
Texans(9-7) (Texans get the tie breaker with Titans.)
Titans(9-7) (I have these guys losing 7-8 games.)
Jaguars(6-10) (yeah, I agree. 10-11 loses seems about right looking at their schedule. MJD can only do but so much.)

AFC East-*Patriots(12-4) (this is basically wishful thinking, me being a Patriots fan. If the team comes together like I'm hoping they will they'll be very good for years to come with all the new young talent.)
Jets(10-6) (this is about right. Kinda tough schedule but they have some nice players.)
Dolphins(8-8) (8-9 loses. I agree. Really tough schedule.)
Bills(3-13) 13-14.( Agreed again. Tough schedule and not enough talent.)

AFC West-*Chargers(11-5) (easy teams to start the season so Jackson ban won't hurt them all that much.)
Broncos(8-8) (7-8 losses, I agree. They get the tie breaker.)
Chiefs(8-8) (very much improved.)
Raiders(4-12) (I'm hoping you're right on this.)

NFC North-*Vikings(11-5) (Tough schedule but they have alot of talent. Get tie breaker.)
Packers(11-5) (I agree.)
Bears(6-10) (I'm not so optimistic about this team.)
Lions(2-14) (I'm going to agree with you on this schedule but I won't be surprised if they got 0-16 again. Tough schedule.)

NFC South-*Saints(13-3) (3-4 loses I agree. Didn't lose much this offseason.)
Falcons(10-6) (Schedule looks favorable.)
Panthers(6-10) (I can't see them doing much. That defense took a big hit losing Peppers.)
Buccaneers(6-10) (I agree. Tough schedule.)

NFC East-*Cowboys(9-7) (Tough schedule but luckily for them the NFC East has weakened.)
Giants(8-8) (I agree, 7-8 wins. Very close with the Cowboys.)
Eagles (7-9) (8-9 loss team, I agree.)
Redskins(7-9) (also agree here.)

NFC West-*49ers(10-6) (I could see them winning 11 because their schedule looks ridiculously easy.)
Cardinals(8-8) (agree here too.)
Seahawks(7-9) (8-9 losses is about right.)
Rams(4-12) (I agree. Bradford will take time.)

NFL betting lines HELP!!!?

11/25 4:05 ET At Arizona -10.5 San Francisco 38
11/25 4:15 ET At San Diego -9 Baltimore 38.5
11/25 8:15 ET At New England -23 Philadelphia 50.5

I know the first number is the points you take off your score, but what's the second number? or just explain it the best you can.

admin answers:

It's the over-under total. For example, Vegas (which sets the lines) says that the total number of points that will be scored in today's Packers-Lions game is 47. You have to determine if the total points scored will be more than ("over") or less than ("under") Vegas' total. So if you put a dime on "over" and they score 50, you win.

Sandy asks…

Betting Lines for the NFL... Your Opinion.?

Please only reply if you know what you are talking about:

the game is Dallas at Seattle: Offer your picks for over/under and offer your opinion on the final score:

Seattle -3
or
Dallas +3

Over/Under: 46.5

Final Score:

Seattle: ??
Dallas: ??

admin answers:

I think the game will be an under with Seattle to come out on top. THey are great at home and have the playoff experience. The weather could also be a factor. Check that out.
Romo is having a nightmare of late, and the Seattle crowd will be LOUD.
Seattle 31
Dallas 10
By the way I am a Pats fan and we would kick both their butts.

John asks…

Historic NFL Betting Line Movements?

I am looking for data on the internet that would have the following information:

NFL 2003, week 12, steelers vs seahawks, opening line=steelers -4, ending line=steelers-5.5
[then the same information for all other games of week 12]
[then the same information for all other weeks of 2003]
[then the same information for all other years (mainly 2002-2005)]

Does anyone know where I could find data like this or if it even exists on the internet?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

admin answers:

Not sure. Why not use an internet search engine to try and find this information?

Jenny asks…

NFL Preseason is here...and so are the betting lines!?

for me, Monday night is poker night, and with the return of the NFL, it's also sports-betting night.

Tonight's match up features the Cleavland Browns and the New York Giants. Game is in New York, and the Giants are a 1.5 to 2.5 point favorite.

What team's gonna bring me home the money?

admin answers:

Well, preseason is difficult to judge and I'm a Browns fan and alot of Browns are sitting tonight so I'd have to go with the Giants laying the chalk.

Ruth asks…

2008 NFL Week 7 Predictions ?

Season Record - 56 - 32

I've missed a few weeks of predictions but anyhow here are my predictions for the week.

Bal @ Mia - I'm going to have to take the away team for the win simply because Baltimore should have a much better record then what they have right now, with that said i think it will be a fairly low scoring game and a tight one at that. Falcco will be out for blood to revitalize his slowly diminishing point output per game. He knows he has to play catch-up with QB Matt Ryan and this will be the week you truly see Baltimore for what they're team really is.
Pick - Baltimore 24 - 21

Pit @ Cin - Cincy ain't beating the steelers at home or on the road. Plain an simple. Palmer probably won't play again this week, and I don't see Fitzpatrick getting far against the steeler defense.
Pick - Pittsburgh 27 - 18

NO @ Car - This is going to be a great game. Although i would usually take the home team in a game like this, and even though some would say NO is anything but a road team, I'm impressed with brees' numbers. This game will come down to who can keep the drives going the longest and even though carolinas defense has been great this year, I don't see them crippling the NO offense.
Pick - NO 33 - 30

SF @ NYG - The giants have to go back to the drawing board and get back to business. After last weeks loss, you won't be seeing the giants lose much between now and the playoffs. Expect a reckless SF team. O'Sullivan has been playing very carelessly and the giants are out for redemption at home.
Pick - NYG 40 - 23

MIN @ CHI - Remember last time Minni played Chicago? It was more like Peterson vs Hester. Anyhow, short and sweet on this one.
Pick - Minnesota 28 - 24

TEN @ KC - Should be similar to the TEN Vs. CIN game.
Pick - Tennessee 28 - 10

SD @ BUF - Another great game. With the return of Edwards and Parrish you can expect a tight game. I'm going with SD however.
Pick - SD 24 - 21

DAL @ STL - The dallas secondary is great is better then STL any day and even if romo doesn't play and with Pac Man out, I don't see STL having two back to back flukes.
Pick - Dallas 37 - 18

DET @ HOU - Sage ftw. Detroit will probably keep this game close for the better part of the game so expect a very slow game. If detroit doesn't bring it, expect a blowout. Very simply.
Pick - Houston 21 - 17

IND @ GB - I'm going with green bay on this game simply due to two reasons. A. Indy is on the road at Lambeau. B. Addai is out.
Pick - GB 36 - 24

CLE @ WAS - Portis is going to run all over the browns defense. After a very embarassing loss, expect a very convincing win.
Pick - Washington 31 - 9

NYJ @ OAK - Jets look good, I won't oppose that. But I need to take a good upset for the week and this is it. Oakland is hungry and they're at home. Lets hope they bring they're running game.
Pick - Oakland 31 - 24

SEA @ TB - Tampa will prevail. Seattle is garbage on the road and tampa is the exact opposite at home. You may as well call this game the lock of the week.
Pick - Tampa Bay 41 - 18

DEN @ NE - Denver is relying on cutler now that they have a few key injuries. Cassel has a lot of proving to do and i think, as close as the game may be, that the pats should take this one at gilette stadium.
Pick - New England 28 - 19

Post thoughts / picks
Consider this : There is roughly an average of 4 upsets per week in the NFL. Don't expect statistical favorites to win.

admin answers:

BAL @ MIA - The Dolphins will try to run the ball in this game but the Ravens defense will be too much for the Dolphins. My Pick: Ravens def Dolphins 24-14

PIT @ CIN - The Bengals have been awful this season, and its only goin to get worst because they are playing the Steelers without Carson Palmer. This is no brainer. My Pick: Steelers 38-10

NO @ CAR - I think the Panthers will bounce back for that horrible loss to the Bucs last sunday. Panthers are home and there defense is really good. Saints are pretty good offensive team. My Pick: Panthers def Saints 27-20

SF @ NYG - You know the Giants are goin to the bounce back. That was a disappointing loss to the Browns last monday. Expect Eli and the Giants defense to play much better in this game. My Pick: Giants def 49ers 27-13

MIN @ CHI - Adrian Peterson vs Devin Hester. I think Kyle Orton will have a good game. My Pick: Bears def Vikings 24-20

TEN @ KC - The Titans defense has been outstanding this season. The Chiefs have horrible this season. My Pick: Titans def Chiefs 24-6

SD @ BUF - This will be a great game the Bills have the best special teams in the league. Look for this to be a high scoring game. My Pick: Chargers def Bills 31-24

DAL @ STL - Romo will be playing hurt but the Cowboys definitely have the advantage in this game. My Pick: Cowboys def Rams 35-10

HOU @ DET - The Lions defense has been terrible this season. Jon Kitna is now out for the season. My Pick: Texans def Lions 24-13

IND @ GB - This is goin to be a great game and a high scoring game.
My Pick: Colts def Packers 38-31

CLE @ WAS - Yea I think Clinton Portis is goin to run all over the Browns defense. My Pick: Redskins def Browns 28-13

NYJ @ OAK - Look for Brett Favre to have a great game. My Pick: Jets def Raiders 27-17

SEA @ TB - Bucs defense will be too much for the struggling Seahawks. My Pick Bucs def Seahawks 34-9

DEN @ NE - Broncos are a high powered offensive team. Patriots will be at home. I think the Broncos offense is too much right for the Patriots. My Pick Broncos def Patriots 35-24

Good Luck
