Questions About Nfl Blackout Rules

Mary asks…

Do sports bars have to follow NFL blackout rules?

I live in Seattle and want to watch the Broncos game on TV tomorrow; both are on at 1pm. Because the Seahawks are playing at home, the other game (part of a doubleheader) is blacked out. Can (will) a sports bar be able to show the other game regardless of this blackout rule?

admin answers:

If they have the NFL Sunday Ticket, then yes.

Chris asks…

Does the NFL Blackout rules apply to Thanksgiving games?

Is the game sold out in Detroit? If it wasn't, would they still show it in the Detroit area due to the Thanksgiving Holiday?

admin answers:

I've heard of teams buying the last block of tickets (through various channels) to avoid a blackout. That's probably what happened today. How embarrassing would it be to the Lions if they were blacked out in Detroit on Thanksgiving Day?

Linda asks…

Why does the NFL blackout rule not allow press conferences to be shown on teams website?

I went to look at the post-game press conference from the Patriots on their homepage, but when I tried to view it said "NFL blackout rules prohibit this from being shown until all games this weekend have been played." Why?

admin answers:

The NFL, in it's infinite wisdom and to be honest in it's TOTALITARIAN STATE, decided that sites can only show up to 30 seconds of footage that involves players and such. Don't even ask where they came up with that one, I'm honestly not sure. Seriously though the NFL instituted a time constraint to how much they can show a week and maybe it was 60 seconds not sure though. Either way the Media tried to talk the NFL into changing it but the NFL doesn't care.

Laura asks…

question about NFL sunday ticket blackout rules?

Im a redskins fan, but im in florida, and they are playing the lions sunday. The games is blacked out in detroit and surrounding areas, does that mean i will miss it here If i go to a bar to watch it?

admin answers:

Detroit is in Michigan. You will be in Florida so no it wont be blacked out in Florida, but you will have to find a channel to watch it on. You have NFL Sunday ticket so you will be able to watch it!
